1. Reset the rebuild

To end this on a positive note, the drafting of Darius Garland does allow the Cleveland Cavaliers to reset their rebuild in a worst case scenario situation.

At some point in this season, one of either Garland or Sexton is going to rise above as the Cavaliers best option. There is a possibility that one of them would be happy taking on a more reserved role, but odds are a trade will be necessary.

This opens up the path for the Cavaliers to obtain more assets and build around a new centerpiece in Garland. If Darius proves to be the superior option in his rookie season, the Cavaliers have every reason to trade Sexton in order to surround Garland with more talent.

On the other hand, if Sexton continues to show strides of improvement in his game, Garland would become an intriguing trading piece. There is no doubt that many teams are hungry for a young point guard such as Garland and Cleveland should be able to haul in a decent return for him.

In the end, having two rising star point guards gives the Cavaliers the freedom to choose between the two of them. It is likely that a trade will be made at some point and it will mark the start of a new direction in the rebuild.
