Utah Jazz: 2019 NBA Draft grades
By Mason McFee
Overall
The Jazz entered the night with two draft picks and left the draft with four players — an established veteran point guard, a prototypical 3-and-D player, a possible third point guard and a star from the Ivy League.
Just because the rookies look good on paper doesn’t mean that will translate to the next level, but the Jazz have a proven track record of developing second round picks and projects like the picks they made on Thursday.
Utah’s draft wasn’t overly exciting, but that’s not a bad thing.
The Jazz are set to have their starting five next season as Mike Conley, Donovan Mitchell, Joe Ingles, Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert. They may round out their roster with a few more veterans and young pieces in free agency, but barring the waiving of Derrick Favors, no major changes are expected, which again, isn’t a bad thing.
Zanik had this to say on the three second round draft picks:
The Jazz seemed to take smart picks with upside, but until those picks play in the NBA Summer League and the G League, it’s going to be hard to judge the Jazz’s draft, for fans and writers alike.
