Overall

The Timberwolves’ new front office, headed by Gersson Rosas, clearly has a plan for how to craft a winning team around its superstar, Karl-Anthony Towns. Thursday night’s draft seemed to be the beginning of a long and chaotic offseason up north, as anyone not named KAT could be moved. It isn’t crazy to imagine Culver never officially donning a T-Wolves jersey either.

Too long the Wolves have been stuck in mediocrity, and taking a risk to move up and get a guy with high upside shouldn’t be frowned upon, even if he wasn’t the guy most expected or wanted. Culver can ball and will be an asset to this team if they hold onto him.

As far as second round picks go, Jaylen Nowell isn’t a terrible bet to possibly become a bench 3-and-D guy. It’s always good to get assets, and Culver is exactly that; Nowell seems poised to play well in the G League until his time comes, results pending.

Minnesota’s roster may be out of whack and imbalanced at the moment, but expect things to sort themselves out, for better or worse, before October. In the meantime, having Culver on board, or at least imagining having him on board, isn’t a bad place to be.
