Boston Celtics

Romeo Langford (No. 14), Grant Williams (No. 22), Carsen Edwards (No. 33), Tremont Waters (No. 51)

The Boston Celtics may be in the midst of a tumultuous time prior to the start of free agency, but it looks as though they’re fully prepared to say goodbye to Kyrie Irving with their first pick of the 2019 Draft.

Romeo Langford showed a natural ability to score the ball at Indiana last season. A smooth 6’4” wing player, he can great space off the dribble and get to the rim with a quick first step. He averaged 16.5 points per game on mostly raw talent. Slotted next to youngsters Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, he’ll have to get accustomed to playing off the ball in what is heading towards a rebuild in Boston.

With Al Horford all but certain to be playing elsewhere next season, the Celtics also made sure to find a possible replacement for the five-time All-Star in Grant Williams. Tennessee ran its offense through the 20-year-old last season and was rewarded with passing instincts that led to 3.2 assists per game.

Taken 33rd overall, Carsen Edwards has all the makings of an elite sixth man. His size makes him difficult to trot out against starting-level competition, but his 24.3 points per game make him an intriguing option to control the second unit.

Boston’s last pick of the night was Tremont Waters, a miniature 5’11” point guard with quick hands that led to 2.9 steals per game last season.

After sitting on the cusp of contention, the Cs appear to be headed back towards a more natural rebuild. None of these prospects will likely turn any heads, but the sheer number of players acquired by the Celtics was a shrewd move for a team with minutes to give out.
