Philadelphia 76ers

Matisse Thybulle (No. 20), Marial Shayok (No. 54)

One would think after the last time the Philadelphia 76ers made a draft-day trade with the Boston Celtics, such a move wouldn’t be soon repeated. Well, Philly managed to acquire the 20th overall pick from the Cs, going forward and selecting Matisse Thybulle.

A four-year collegiate player at Washington, Thybulle already projects to be a plus on the defensive end. He’s got great athleticism but also combines it with a relentless drive that has him dive for loose balls and hustle back on defense.

A lanky wing, Marial Shayok averaged 18.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game at Iowa State last season. He also canned 38.6 percent of his looks from deep. Given Philly’s need for versatility at every position along with a lack of depth, Shayok may get the chance to prove himself on a postseason contender.

The Sixers were adamant about giving away multiple second round picks in an attempt to retain as much money as possible for the impending max contracts of both Jimmy Butler and Tobias Harris. That being the case, it made sense for them to ship off young talent despite the upside that may have gone with it.
