Overall

The Celtics entered the draft with questions at nearly every position. While those questions mostly remain at the center position, Boston was able to exit the draft with two steals in Williams and Edwards, an extremely promising scorer in Langford, and a late-round hopeful in Waters.

The Celtics were also able to use the savvy trade ability of Danny Ainge to create a max contract slot for this upcoming offseason. Boston now has a number of options to look at in free agency, as well as the potential to trade for the likes of Clint Capela or Steven Adams.

Boston’s draft didn’t answer many of its lingering questions, but it offered a beacon of hope that the Celtics can weather the storm of Irving and Horford’s departures. They were able to add depth to their already young core, as well as gather assets for the future.

The Celtics appeared to be an active dumpster fire with little chance of being extinguished just hours before the draft. Hours after the draft, and they appear to have salvaged youth and depth and created an opportunity to remain among the top teams in the Eastern Conference.
