3. Blockbuster with the Phoenix Suns

The Spencer Dinwiddie trade rumors have been swirling this summer and they make a lot of sense considering the Brooklyn Nets are the favorites to land Kyrie Irving in free agency. If Irving does come to Brooklyn, Dinwiddie is probably expendable, as he doesn’t fit quite as well next to Kyrie as he did when paired with the less ball-dominant D’Angelo Russell.

Dinwiddie even recently poked fun at himself for being on the trade block and acknowledged the fact that many Brooklyn fans want him to be moved:

The Phoenix Suns have seemingly been in the market for a point guard since Steve Nash left and need a veteran floor general to make life easier for young stars Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton.

T.J. Warren is a perfect return for the Nets, as his salary matches up with Dinwiddie’s and he can provide the same scoring impact Spencer did off the bench. The only difference is Warren is a frontcourt player and the Nets have a more pressing need for forwards than guards, especially if Irving is due to sign next month.

Adding another second round pick in this deal would just be icing on the cake for Sean Marks. Theoretically, this could make the Nets even more likely to trade up in round one and just gives them more flexibility to maneuver their way around the draft board.

If the Nets wind up keeping all three picks they’d now own, pick No. 32 would be a good opportunity for them to add a draft-and-stash player like Luka Samanic.

This would mean they don’t have to commit any more salary to the 2019-20 season, but can still roll the dice on a high-ceiling prospect.

Spencer Dinwiddie was a huge part of why the Nets were able to make the playoffs in 2018-19, but adding T.J. Warren, who is arguably on the league’s best contract with three years and $35.2 million remaining, plus an early second round pick, would be the best-case scenario trade-wise for Brooklyn on draft night.
