4. Chuma Okeke

This would be something of a domestic draft-and-stash, since Chuma Okeke is still on the mend from tearing his ACL in March. For a team that should be looking to free agency and the trade market for legitimate difference-makers anyway, being patient with a second round rookie who could plug in some bench holes wouldn’t be a problem.

Before his season-ending injury, Okeke was posting 12.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.2 blocks per game for an Auburn team that reached the Final Four. He’s a hard-working help defender, can score in the post and is more than competent as a passer when the double comes down low.

His 3-point stroke, though on the slower side, is effective; Okeke canned 38.7 percent of his 3.7 attempts per game from distance. He can’t really score off the dribble, but as a spot-up threat, he could be useful on offense — especially if he learns to speed up that release.

Drafting a player coming off a major knee injury is risky, and there are concerns about his athleticism and handle holding up at the next level. Even so, Okeke’s 3-and-D upside and his potential as a small-ball 4 makes him worth consideration in the early stages of the second round.
