9. Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz ran into their ultimate foil in the Houston Rockets this year, but they’re one star player away from making a legitimate run at the West after three straight trips to the postseason. They need a more efficient Donovan Mitchell, sure, but between his playoff heroics and Rudy Gobert‘s underrated two-way play, this group should not be taken lightly.

If the Jazz can replace Ricky Rubio with a high-caliber point guard (Mike Conley, anyone?), they could become a legitimate force in the Western Conference. Their defense is already elite, all the prominent names will be back next season, and if the Jazz can avoid the type of disastrous starts they’ve gotten off to the last two years, they should push for a top-four seed.

James Harden has tormented Utah in the last two postseasons, but with an offseason ahead and enough cap space to make one big move, the Jazz shouldn’t be left out of this conversation.
