2. Milwaukee Bucks

It’s easy to forget after watching the Raptors’ exhilarating Finals performances against the mighty Warriors, but it was actually the Milwaukee Bucks who were the overwhelming favorites to win the East this year. After they steamrolled their way to a 2-0 lead in the conference finals, a Bucks-Warriors showdown appeared to be inevitable.

Milwaukee would go on to lose four straight games, of course, but any question about what path this team might pursue as Khris Middleton, Malcolm Brogdon and Brook Lopez all approach free agency was answered the minute Toronto won its first championship.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is most likely going to win his first MVP award, and you do whatever it takes to assemble a contender around a player like that. The Bucks had the eventual NBA champions on the ropes in their matchup, and with the Warriors are banged up and Kawhi’s future still uncertain, this 60-win team that ranked in the top five for both offensive and defensive rating could easily emerge victorious from the 2020 NBA Finals.
