Brooklyn Nets: 3 steps to the perfect 2019 offseason
The Brooklyn Nets are set to be major players this offseason. Here are three things that need to happen for them to have a perfect summer in 2019.
After four years of futility, the Brooklyn Nets broke through last season to win 42 games and give us a highly entertaining first round playoff series with the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Nets boast one of the league’s youngest rosters with D’Angelo Russell, Caris LeVert, Jarrett Allen, Rodions Kurucs and the newly acquired Taurean Prince all being 25 or younger.
However, with close to $70 million in cap space and an elite group of free agents available, the Nets may want to accelerate their rebuild and add some star power.
Brooklyn is rumored to be a heavy favorite to land Kyrie Irving and will have a shot at Tobias Harris and some of the other tier-two free agents. The Nets could also bring back Russell, a restricted free agent, on a max or near-max contract.
A free agent haul of Irving and Russell or even Irving and Harris would, in all reality, be quite the coup. These moves would vault the Brooklyn Nets to the top of the Eastern conference and make fans ecstatic. However, this would not be a true “dream” offseason.
A real dream offseason would see the Nets land two MVP-caliber players and make suffering through the end of the Billy King era worth it. Here, we explore three ways that Brooklyn can achieve an offseason of perfection.
While the scenarios outlined here may not be likely, they are certainly possible.
