1. Jayson Tatum

Jayson Tatum might be the future of the Boston Celtics franchise. However, that does not mean he should not be considered in trade talks, especially in one for Anthony Davis.

Tatum was the third overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft and led Boston to the Eastern Conference Finals as a rookie. In his second season in the NBA this year, he was the teams’ second-leading scorer and was an absolutely fantastic player once again.

He is under contract for one more season worth about $7.8 million followed by a team option worth $9.9 million for the 2020-21 season. At just 21 years old, Tatum has the potential to be one of the best players in the entire NBA during his prime.

In the 2018-19 season, Tatum averaged 15.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He is also an extremely reliable 3-point shooter at 40.0 percent on his career. With his effortless scoring ability and 6’8″ frame, Tatum has the potential to be the next elite 3-and-D star in this league, similar to Paul George.

Unless it is part of a blockbuster trade that would bring a top-five player in the NBA to Boston, Tatum should not be involved in any trade talks. With that being said, if Boston does want to make a competitive offer for a player like Anthony Davis, Tatum will have to be involved. Trading him away for a player who is arguably a top-five NBA player when healthy would absolutely be worth it.
