Toronto Raptors: 5 options for pick No. 59 in 2019 NBA Draft
1. Carsen Edwards
Carsen Edwards may not fall into Toronto’s laps. He’s one of the most polarizing prospects in the draft, mocked anywhere from the late first round to undrafted altogether.
If he slips to the Raptors, however, they should jump at the opportunity to draft him.
Edwards temporarily became the face of college basketball with a stunning run through the NCAA Tournament. He scored 42 points in a blowout win over Villanova, 29 in an upset of Tennessee, and 42 in a tight loss to eventual champion Virginia, setting an NCAA Tournament record with 28 3-pointers made in just four games.
He’s not a prototypical point guard. He averaged just 2.9 assists per game last season. His high usage in college also translated to the turnover category, surrendering the ball 3.14 times a game.
But Edwards is a baller, plain and simple. He will shoot 3s with reckless abandon, yet make them look like easy swishes. He can carry a team on his back, no matter the situation. He will work until he proves he’s the best player in the gym, then work a little harder on top.
He’s the type of player Toronto should hone in on going forward.
