The Golden State Warriors were defeated by the Toronto Raptors 118-109 in Game 1 of the 2019 NBA Finals. Here are the major takeaways from the loss.

The Golden State Warriors came into their 2019 NBA Finals matchup against the Toronto Raptors by way of sweeping the Portland Trail Blazers in the Western Conference Finals. Not only that, it had been nine days since the last time they had been on the court.

Meanwhile, the Raptors needed six games to get by the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks to earn the franchise’s first ever trip to the Finals. With that being said, the Dubs appeared to have the upper hand, considering they were on the league’s biggest stage for the fifth year in a row.

In Game 1, however, it was the Raptors who played like a team that had been there before. Following a somewhat shaky start, they took a 10-point lead into the break.

True to form, the Warriors managed to trim the deficit to single digits. But in the end, it was the Raptors who emerged victorious in the series opener, posting a 118-109 win over the defending champs. Although Stephen Curry scored a game-high 34 points, it wasn’t enough to prevent the Dubs from dropping the first game of a Finals series over the past four years.

Here’s a look at three notable takeaways from the Warriors’ Game 1 defeat.
