Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 reasons to trade down in 2019 NBA Draft
By Tony Pesta
3. Lack of talent in the draft
The 2019 NBA Draft is not a very talented one. Of course, this could be proven wrong once the season begins and these prospects actually begin playing. But, on the surface, this draft doesn’t appear to be very deep.
The first three picks seem to be almost certainly Zion Williamson, Ja Morant and R.J. Barrett. Outside of these three, there are a few more intriguing prospects rounding out the top 10. The majority of these players fall roughly around the same skill level.
Top remaining prospects such as Cam Reddish, De’Andre Hunter, Brandon Clarke, Jarrett Culver and Darius Garland all seem to be scattered across the top 10 in varying positions, depending on which mock draft you look at.
Because of this, the Cavaliers should not regret moving down a few spots in the draft. The talent level seems to be pretty evenly spread through the rest of the lottery, meaning that it likely wouldn’t hurt the Cavs to drop in the order.
