3. Frank Kaminsky

Age: 26

2018-19 salary: $2.9 million

Status: Restricted free agent

After seemingly taking steps forward over his first three years in the league, last season was certainly a step back for Kaminsky. Having averaged 78 games in his initial three seasons, Kaminsky made just 47 appearances last season. Furthermore, after averaging 23.4 minutes per contest over his first 235 games, this number dropped to 16.1 minutes per contest.

With new head coach James Borrego in charge, Kaminsky wound up ranking 11th on the team in minutes per game, a dramatic drop for the player taken No. 9 overall in the 2015 NBA Draft. A 7’0″ stretch-big, Kaminsky seemingly has the skill-set to make an impact in the modern day NBA, hence the reason he was such a highly sought-after lottery pick after being named the National College Player of the Year.

To his credit, Kaminsky managed to stay upbeat throughout the course of last season, and was rewarded with a late-season flurry. With starting center Cody Zeller sidelined, Kaminsky relished the chance to prove his value in the midst of the Charlotte Hornets making a last-minute attempt to scrape into the playoffs. In a three-game span, Kaminsky averaged 22.3 points and 8.0 rebounds, posting at least 20 points and multiple triples in each contest.

In terms of his fit with the Heat, naturally his skill-set overlaps with the incumbent Kelly Olynyk. However, with the Heat expected to active in the trade market this summer, Kaminsky could prove to be a handy fallback option should the Heat decide to include Olynyk in a potential deal.
