3. Keldon Johnson

It’s always hard not to give a look at a player that comes from Kentucky or has played within a system like John Calipari’s.

Keldon Johnson is a player that can play in multiple different positions, although he is technically listed as a shooting guard. At 6’7″, he could swap between the guard position and could also play a little forward among a smaller lineup if a team decided to use him in that way.

Offensively, Johnson is a really entertaining player to watch and carries a lot of characteristics that could transfer well to the NBA. It would be really fun to see Johnson and Donovan Mitchell pair up next to each other, both having the ability to turn on that switch at any point in a game.

As more of a larger guard, Johnson is able to create a lot of opportunities for himself on the offensive end of the floor and does a nice job of getting to the basket. Utah is also looking for more players to serve as ball-handlers within the offensive schemes, and Johnson is definitely a player that would fit into that mold.

On the downside of things, Johnson is a young player and that could come with a steeper learning curve to overcome once he gets into the NBA. He has also been described as a player that tends to lean more towards an isolation style of play once he gets the ball in his hands, rather than working within a system.

Overall, Johnson could be a quality addition to the Utah rotation and could end up sharing some of the same qualities and characteristics that Jazz fans have seen with Mitchell during his professional career thus far.

Although he is an intriguing selection at the No. 23 pick, Utah could probably focus on shoring up other holes within its roster with this first round selection and could address the guard depth in the second round.
