Portland Trail Blazers: 5 options for pick No. 25 in 2019 NBA Draft
By Ty Delbridge
4. Dylan Windler
Age: 22
Position: Small Forward
Height: 6’7.5”/6’10” wingspan
Weight: 200 pounds
Main selling point: 3-point shooting
In the back half of the draft, teams should be looking for players that are raw but have upside (Anfernee Simons) or guys that are strong in a specific area. For the Blazers, they should look to Dylan Windler, who is an elite 3-point shooter and will get some looks from NBA teams because of it. He played four years at Belmont, shot a career 40.5 percent from the 3-point line and is one of the best shooters in his entire draft class.
However, Windler brings more to the table than just 3-point shooting. He can create his own shot and score with the ball in his hands. He plays hard on both ends, has a high basketball IQ and is a solid rebounder for a wing — he averaged 7.8 rebounds per game for his career and 10.8 per game in 2018-19.
As an older player, he knows what he can and cannot do, and should be able to see the floor right away as a rookie and be a long-term contributor in the NBA. His game compares similarly to Utah Jazz forward Joe Ingles or veteran Shane Battier.
Besides Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum and Seth Curry (2018-19) the Blazers have lacked reliable 3-point shooters over the past couple seasons. Bringing in a player like Windler would give them the ability to have a lethal shooter that defenses have to stay home on. He needs to get physically stronger, but his height and wingspan would allow him to defend shooting guards and thinner forwards. Shooting is a significant need for the Blazers, and Windler helps fill that need.
