5. Ty Jerome

The Sixers weren’t the best defensive team last year, but there remains a sense of optimism in what they can become on that side of the ball. Ty Jerome could help expedite that growth in the 2019-20 campaign.

Jerome spearheaded a Virginia brigade to a NCAA championship in April, where he did just about everything coach Tony Bennett expected from him, from scoring to setting up teammates to leading off the court. He also has range on the offensive end, coupled with a shooting touch that mirrors former Virginia Cavalier Joe Harris.

Forgoing his senior year, Jerome possesses good size for an NBA point guard at 6’5″. His quietly impressive length to muck up passing lanes and guard multiple positions translated to 1.2 steals per game in three college seasons.

An on-the-fence first-rounder, he is almost guaranteed to be available when it’s the Sixers’ turn to make a decision. They will need to weigh their options and determine the greatest fit.

If the result is a competitor with a basketball IQ to the degree of Jerome, so be it.
