5. Kezie Okpala
Not the most polished product, selecting Kezie Okpala would perplex the average fan. He’s extremely raw, but with proper development, could become a versatile cog in a league of malleability.
The foundation for a good player already exists. He boasts a 7’2″ wingspan and above-the-rim athleticism to boot. Additionally, he showed improvement from freshman to sophomore year at Stanford, becoming a capable ball-handler and improving shooter (22.6 to 36.8 percent on 3s).
As a defender, he has the tools and profile to become elite. His length and height will allow him to compete across the positional spectrum; he simply needs to bulk up and become more fundamental.
At first he’ll be a coach’s biggest pet peeve, but he should show enough flashes in the G League or garbage time to eventually work into the rotation by the 2020-21 season.
If the Sixers pick Okpala, it will be because their first two selections went swimmingly, and they feel they can afford to take a swing on a riskier prospect.
