To say that the Dallas Mavericks swing and missed on French guard Rodrigue Beaubois, who Dallas traded to get, is a massive understatement. Whenever you take a player in the first round, you’re hoping to get a little more than four seasons with .079 WS/48.

To be fair, Beaubois looked like a promising backup point guard, averaging 7.1 points per game with a .518/.409/.808 shooting line off the bench. However, he became less and less efficient as his career went along, bottoming out with a 10.6 PER and a 47.0 true shooting percentage in 2012-13.

Instead, the Mavericks should have taken undrafted Australian swingman Joe Ingles. Much like Wesley Matthews and another man on this list, Ingles was doubly overlooked and consequently honed his game overseas for several years.

He later signed with the Jazz prior to the 2014-15 season. While he had to wait a few years before becoming a starter, Ingles would make the most of his opportunity when he did.

As of 2019, Ingles has .110 WS/48, making him far more valuable than the one season of okay production Beaubois provided Dallas. The only downside is that it would further reinforce Mavericks owner Marc Cuban’s awful takes on players from AAU programs.
