Film Study

The explosiveness is the first thing that catches they eye in this first highlight. Morant finishes right over the bigger defender and doesn’t even budge when contact comes.

His vision and feel for the game is showcased as well. His recognition of his defender shading over toward the big setting the screen comes at the drop of a dime.

Many college players of his caliber excel with the ball in their hands, but Morant possesses an NBA-readiness when it comes to reacting and making plays off the ball:

Here, he shows his elite change of speed ability. A quick hesitation step allows him to get past his defender and the help defender. When the defense swings a quick double-team towards him in the paint, he has the vision to drop off a quick drop off pass to his big for the easy bunny.

How about a quick montage of his 3-point shooting?

While his jumper is still one of the weaker, less developed parts of his game, he does show flashes of being able to drain the long ball off the dribble and off the catch. The continued development of his jumper will open up his drives and keep defenses completely off-balance.
