It took a double-digit comeback for the Golden State Warriors to steal Game 2 of the 2019 Western Conference Finals from the Portland Trail Blazers.

There is a group of NBA fans of the belief that the Golden State Warriors are better without Kevin Durant on the court. Those people weren’t feeling too good about their brash opinion early on in Game 2 of the 2019 Western Conference Finals.

Not looking to fall behind 2-0 in the series, the Portland Trail Blazers came out with energy and intensity at both ends of the floor. They headed into halftime up 15 on the backbone of an 11-of-22 shooting display from downtown, with Damian Lillard not hitting his first shot until 3:50 left in the second quarter.

The Warriors didn’t fret. As we’ve all seen over the years, they’ve come back from worse. A third quarter barrage would get them back into the contest. Even after Portland regained control midway through the fourth with an eight-point lead, Golden State continued to fight, enough to ultimately claim victory by a final score of 114-111.

The Splash Brothers led the way once again for the Dubs. Stephen Curry finished with a game-high 37 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Klay Thompson had 24 and continued to hound Portland’s backcourt into another subpar outing.

Lillard and CJ McCollum both shot under 40 percent for the second consecutive game. The former finished with 23 points, but did a better job at reading the defense with 10 assists. It took McCollum 23 shots to register 22 points.

Golden State had every reason to roll over and succumb to the Blazers’ effort. Instead, the Warriors did what champions do. They bucked down and clawed their way to a win, one that has them in firm control of a series now heading to Portland.
