3. Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets are coming off of a disappointing second round exit in the 2019 NBA Playoffs. It seemed as if they lacked the star power to make a championship push. You could argue they should stick with their extremely talented young core, but when you have the assets to acquire a player of Anthony Davis’ caliber, you have to at least consider it.

The stockpile of assets the Nuggets have is outstanding. They had several players who were major contributors in the regular season but didn’t get minutes in the playoffs as rotations had to tighten. Anthony Davis paired with Nikola Jokic would be the NBA’s premier frontcourt duo. They are some of the best passing big men in the league and would be nearly impossible to guard.

In this proposed trade, the Pelicans would acquire two young guards who would both have a good chance at starting immediately. Jamal Murray is one of the most promising young point guards in the league, still only 22 years old. Gary Harris could play alongside Jrue Holiday, creating a formidable starting backcourt on both ends of the floor.

Jarred Vanderbilt is a former second round pick who has a lot of potential, but didn’t get a chance to play much with how deep the Nuggets were. The Pelicans would also receive a future first round pick to add to their roster down the road (2021 is the soonest they can trade one). The past several years, the Pelicans’ biggest weakness has been guard play, which would no longer be a problem if they made this trade.
