2. The 42-point lambasting of the Los Angeles Lakers

As disappointing as the Los Angeles Lakers‘ season was this year, there was arguably no lower point for them than when Indiana crushed them in early February. This was around the same time that rumors were swirling about Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis coming to L.A. in exchange for nearly the whole young core of the team.

Indiana took advantage of a fragmented Lakers squad and a subpar LeBron James, with seven Pacers players tallying double-figures in scoring and everyone seeing some action on the court. The 42-point victory was the Pacers’ largest of the season, and also LeBron’s worst-ever loss to any team in terms of point deficit.

After the end of the first half, there was almost never a time where Indiana wasn’t up by at least 20 points. Their defense held their ground and didn’t get complacent in the blowout win.

After the game there was speculation about LeBron’s connection to his teammates when a photo captured James far at the end of the bench with some time left to go in the contest.

Maybe Indiana was an unlikely team to deliver the King his worst ever loss, especially without Victor Oladipo, but it was a major moment for the Pacers in 2018-19.
