Greatest draft pick in Golden State Warriors history: Stephen Curry

Who would’ve thought the scrawny little point guard from Davidson University would not only be the greatest draft pick in Golden State Warriors history but also quickly ascending up the list of pantheon greats as the undisputed greatest shooter ever?

The basketball gods gave Curry little to work with. He wasn’t tall. He wasn’t strong, nor could he hang above the rim with the best of them. That didn’t stop the Baby Faced Assasin from developing one of the best under-the-rim skillsets in NBA history.

No matter how well a defender may play Steph at any point in time, it never quite feels like enough. Over the years, Curry’s developed this incredible ability to not only make an insane amount of 3-pointers but the ability to do it under the most unique circumstances

He can come off a screen and fire over two outstretched defenders or pull up five feet beyond the arc and touch nothing but nylon. Once he crosses halfcourt, there’s not a spot on the floor he isn’t a threat from.

The powerhouse team of today is not the one Steph arrived to as the seventh overall pick in the 2009 Draft. The Dubs were reputably bad, but it was Curry’s presence that set the foundation for the future, going from conference cellar dwellers to playoff participants to eventual NBA champions.

Through it all, Curry continued to set a new standard for what it meant to be a 3-point shooter. He made a record 402 in his unanimous MVP campaign in 2015-16, helping Golden State to a record 73 wins. He’s well on his way to absolutely obliterating the all-time 3-point record held by Ray Allen.

Steph is in the midst of a run not many have produced in NBA history. He’s re-writing the record books, winning at the highest level seemingly every year with a style of play we’ve simply never seen before.

The end of a dynasty is something nobody can predict. Some may wonder when this reign of terror will come to an end. No matter what happens with this Warriors team moving forward, it’s important to know we’re in the midst of one of the games greatest stretches in league history, led by a player who will go down in history as having revolutionized the game to the point of no return.
