Toronto Raptors: 3 takeaways from Game 3 loss vs. 76ers
1. Team’s success “rides or dies” with Kyle Lowry
Kyle Lowry is a former All-NBA member and 5x All-Star in the association. It is no secret he doesn’t perform at his best during the playoffs. The team, which used to rely heavily on his scoring, has become less dependent in that category, but they still need him to produce.
Lowry had seven points, five rebounds and 5 assists on 2-for-10 shooting and 0-for-4 from deep in the Game 3 loss. That doesn’t tell the whole story. Lowry was a team-worst -28 on both ends of the floor as well. Known for his hustle plays, and leads in multiple hustle categories this postseason, is simply not enough production. Even he acknowledged as so:
"“Me personally, I’ve got to play better,” Lowry said. “I can’t go out there and shoot 2-for-10 and miss open 3s,” per The Athletic."
He continued.
"“We’ve got to help (Leonard). Myself especially, I’ve got to help him score more. I’ve got to help him on the floor. We’ve all got to help him. He’s playing unbelievable right now. We’re not giving him any help. Me, I’m not giving him any help. We’ve got to help him,” per The Athletic."
The last time Lowry said similar words was after Game 1’s loss against the Orlando Magic with a response the next game with 22 points. The Raptors need Lowry to perform at his All-Star level. He is the vocal leader of his team, and he needs to start setting the tone. His defensive tenacity has always been infectious to his teammates, but they need his offense to go along with his hustle.
As great as Siakam and Leonard have been this postseason, Lowry’s impact on the pace of the game with his playmaking, hustle and shot creation is unmatched. The Raptors will only go as far as their fearless leader, Lowry will lead them. They need Lowry Time!
