Detroit Pistons: 2018-19 player grades for Reggie Jackson

The Detroit Pistons’ season has come to an end, and Reggie Jackson had an up and down year that was quite confusing to look back at.

The Detroit Pistons‘ 2018-19 season has come to an end. With this past season, we saw point guard Reggie Jackson’s best season in three years. He finished the year averaging 15.4 points, 4.2 assists and 2.6 rebounds with a slash line of .421/.369/.864.

The best mark out of that bunch was his 3-point shooting. In order to play alongside power forward Blake Griffin, he needed to be able to knock down outside shots at a consistent rate, and he was able to do that this season.

Unfortunately for both he and the rest of the team, his flaws were greatly exposed when the playoffs rolled around. He’s a below average defender, and he doesn’t do a good job of generating offense for anyone when he doesn’t immediately find his shot.

Unlike other members of the team, expectations were relatively low for Jackson. I thought they should’ve traded him before the season started because his value would only go down, but it actually went up some.

The issue with Jackson is that there is no way to know if this is the player we’ll be getting moving forward. He just turned 29, and, until this season, had never played all 82 games. He could work well as a secondary player or off the bench, but they’re relying on him to be a high-quality starter. He showed some flashes of what he could be, but it just didn’t happen all the time.
