3 big questions surrounding the New Orleans Pelicans’ future
1. What’s the plan with everyone else?
Figuring out what to do with Anthony Davis may be the biggest task on the Pelicans’ to-do list, but once that is settled, there’s still plenty left up in the air. If the Brow is traded away in the offseason, what happens with the rest of the roster?
Players like Julius Randle and Elfrid Payton proved to be valuable to the team this season, but will be free agents this offseason. If the direction of the team has changed, it may be in their best interest to let those players walk rather than offer up another deal. Then again, both are still fairly young, and depending on what the timeline looks like for New Orleans, they could be building blocks moving forward.
Jrue Holiday is the obvious elephant in the room in this scenario. The former All-Defensive First Team guard just came off of one of his best seasons in the league, averaging a career-high 21.2 points per game. There’s no question about his talent, but if the team seems to be in line for a rebuild, it may be better off with assets.
The potential for a Holiday trade would likely depend upon New Orleans’ ability to get a fair return for him. Even if they are better suited with young players and picks rather than Holiday, it wouldn’t make sense to sell low just for the sake of getting rid of him.
