Oklahoma City Thunder: Top 10 moments of the 2018-19 NBA season
5. Russell Westbrook’s 11 straight triple-doubles
Westbrook has taken the triple-double, which was once one of the hardest things to accomplish in an NBA game, and made it look easy. With 138 career triple-doubles, he will soon pass Magic Johnson (138) for the second-most in NBA history, at which point he’ll set his sights on Oscar Robertson (181) for the No. 1 spot.
What helped Westbrook get the triple-double average this year was the longest triple-double streak that the NBA has ever seen. He pulled together 11 straight triple-doubles in a streak that lasted from Jan. 22-Feb. 14.
Some highlights from that streak were the 23-point, 14-rebound, 14-assist night on Jan. 29 against the Orlando Magic, the 16-point, 15-rebound, 16-assist night on Feb. 5 against the Magic again and finally, the 44-point, 14-rebound, 11-assist night on Feb. 14 against the New Orleans Pelicans.
Westbrook was able to put together a magical run. He is tied for second with Wilt Chamberlain for the most 15-15-15 games in the NBA with eight. By the time he is done, he will be known as perhaps the best stat sheet-stuffer in NBA history, but it’s also worth noting the Thunder went 9-2 over this stretch, which speaks to his all-around impact too.
