2. Russell Westbrook averages third straight triple-double

Going into the game against the Detroit Pistons on April 5, Westbrook needed three more assists to secure his triple-double average for the third straight year. He finished with 15. What was once a record that many said would never be broken has now been broken three times.

This season, Russ averaged 22.9 points, 11.1 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game. Not even Westbrook could believe that he has been able to maintain this level of play for so long.

According to Cliff Brunt of AP, he said, “I take it one day at a time. That’s it, man. That’s it. It’ll hit me at some point, just like it’s going to hit everyone else in this room, too.”

One day everybody will be able to appreciate what has happened over the past three years. Westbrook has been able to transform his career into a Hall of Fame one ever since Kevin Durant left.

Over these three years, he’s been able to win an MVP trophy and average a triple-double three times in a row. That is not something that any NBA players can say they’ve done. In the process, Westbrook has solidified himself as a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer.
