The Boston Celtics bested the Indiana Pacers 84-74 in Game 1 of the first round of the 2019 NBA Playoffs. Here’s what we learned from the game.

The Boston Celtics‘ double-digit victory over the Indiana Pacers in their first playoff game of the Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward era seemed like a good omen for things to come. While the offense wasn’t pretty in Game 1 on Sunday, Boston deserves to be commended for its ability to tighten up and get the little things done.

Kyrie Irving was unsurprisingly tied for the team’s leading scorer with 20 points to match Marcus Morris‘ impressive effort off the bench. To go along with his points, Irving dished out a team-leading seven assists, followed by Al Horford (five) and Gordon Hayward (four).

Indiana struggled to find a consistent scorer all game, being led in scoring by backup guard Cory Joesph’s 14 points. The Victor Oladipo-less Pacers’ three leading scorers, Myles TurnerDomantas Sabonis and Bojan Bogdanovic combined for a measly 24 points.

While this was only one game in a seven-game series, Boston has to feel pretty good about this win, and also about how they can build off of this moving forward. Here are the main takeaways from the Celtics’ and Pacers’ gritty Game 1.
