2. “Jimmy Buckets” is a real thing.
For as much as the Sixers failed to do on this day, one player managed to make his presence known: Jimmy Butler. With 36 points on 22 shots, he truly lived up to his reputation.
Butler was in peak form in Game 1, which is something literally zero other Sixers can say. He commanded the offense for stretches and took over the role of alpha when he didn’t have to initiate.
The fact that he had to run so many pick-and-rolls is a roster-related problem, but he made the best of every other situation. He’s a closer at heart, and that gamer mentality was on display today, especially at the end of the first half:
But alas, one man can only do so much. Butler had a great game, which should quell most criticisms about what he’s made of, but the rest of the team has some work to do.
