Cavaliers: 3 biggest disappointments from the 2018-19 NBA season
By Ryan Piers
1. The overall record
Let’s not complicate things and just state the obvious. More than anything, the 19-63 record was a major disappointment.
Few probably expected the Cavs to make the playoffs. But with All-Star Kevin Love and multiple young players entering their prime on the roster, a competitive year in the top-heavy Eastern Conference was reasonable to expect.
Cleveland laid an egg, equaling the 19-63 2010-11 season as the worst for the franchise since it drafted LeBron James. Love’s injury obviously played a major role. Former head coach Tyronn Lue clearly wasn’t up to the task of developing the young talent. Larry Drew didn’t really seem invested towards the end of the year.
The Cavs finished the season on a sour note, losing it’s last ten games and finishing with the league’s worst point differential at -9.6. points. At the very least, it would have been nice finish with momentum heading into next season.
Bottom line, it was just too much losing. Fans want to be able to stomach a team’s performance, even in a rebuilding year. When it comes to wins and losses, this year was truly forgettable.
