4. Set the tone early

As mentioned, the Orlando Magic are rolling as of late. The Toronto Raptors have to set the stage at home in Game 1. Kyle Lowry is one of the best playmakers in the league, he will be key in setting the tempo and making sure it’s in the favor of Toronto.

In postseason past, the Raptors have a tendency to play to the competition’s pace and style of play. With home-court advantage, the best player and an overall higher talent ceiling than the Magic, they should come out strong, set the stage early and dictate to their own style of play.

Orlando is a low-turnover team that looks to utilize its size and capable perimeter shooters, which the Raptors can easily match. They will have more success in their combination of different offensive set plays and free-flowing offense. The Raptors play well against zone defenses, and with high-IQ players in Leonard, Gasol and Lowry, they take advantage of defenses that trap (the Raptors’ kryptonite in the past).

The Raptors have had four days — one more than most — to prepare for Saturday’s home match. With relentless energy and playmaking, they will set the tone early for the rest of the series and come out with the convincing play of a true contender.
