1. Tyronn Lue

A possible candidate for the Sacramento Kings’ coaching vacancy who hasn’t been talked about much is Tyronn Lue. The former Cleveland Cavaliers coach won an NBA championship over Luke Walton and the Golden State Warriors in 2015-16.

Lue has a good rapport with LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, which is a major reason that the potential opening in Los Angeles is the only job he has been connected to. However, if Lue wants to have a fresh start in coaching and avoid the turmoil and drama that comes from coaching a LeBron James-led team (which literally drove him to the hospital), the Kings could possibly fill that description for him.

Lue was fired at the beginning of the 2018-19 season after an 0-6 start with a Cavs roster that could barely be described as NBA-level. If anything, that dismissal could be viewed as a great mercy from the organization, not wanting to drag their champion coach through what was sure to be a debacle of a season.

Of course, it probably wasn’t.

In any event, Lue will still likely be at the top of the interest list for the Lakers, if and when their head coaching spot opens up. After that, it likely comes down to whether or not Lue wants to coach LeBron again, and to do it under the bright lights of Los Angeles, or whether he’d rather coach a promising group of youngsters in Sacramento and help them take the next step.
