3. Monty Williams

The third candidate for the Sacramento Kings’ job mentioned in Sam Amick’s tweets is Monty Williams, currently an assistant coach with the Philadelphia 76ers. Williams should be a highly desirable candidate for not just the Kings, but a number of other teams as coaching openings seem to be multiplying throughout the NBA after the end of the regular season.

A journeyman in his playing career who laced up for the New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic and the Sixers, Williams is widely liked and respected by coaches and players alike through the league. Whether it’s this job or another, it’s just a matter of time until he gets another head coaching job.

Monty Williams was the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans between 2010-15, leading them to a 173-221 record in the regular season and a 2-8 record in the playoffs.

He has been an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers and Oklahoma City Thunder before his current spot with the Sixers. Whether it be the Kings or another team, it would be a surprise if none of the teams with head coaching vacancies courted his services heavily this summer.
