1. Dirk’s final game in Dallas

31,570 points, the sixth-most in NBA history. Both a regular season and Finals MVP. Fourteen-time All-Star. Twelve-time All-NBA selection. And most importantly, the leader in the Mavericks’ first NBA championship in franchise history.

These are just some of the many accomplishments Dirk Nowitzki achieved over the course of a 21-year career, and it was his final game in Dallas that brought all those memories back to the surface.

Dirk would actually score a season-high 30 points in this 120-109 victory over the Phoenix Suns, but it was the postgame festivities that really got the emotions flowing. Nowitzki was met by former legends such as Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley and Larry Bird, as well as Shawn Kemp and Detlef Schrempf, all of whom spoke highly of the man of the hour.

He would officially announce his retirement shortly after in front of the loyal fanbase in Dallas, with the reaction from the crowd going from shock and disappointment to a cheerful appreciation of the greatest player in franchise history.

Nowitzki never played like your typical NBA superstar. He never made demands and never looked for greener pastures. He is the only player in league history to play 21 seasons with a single franchise, and his lone NBA championship in 2011 will always stand out throughout league history.
