8. Vince Carter turns back the clock with right-handed flush

Speaking of the dunk contest, Vince Carter was another guy who would’ve made that sleep-inducing event more entertaining. Sure, he probably wouldn’t have quite reached the heights that he did in 2000, but based on what he’s flashed in pre-game warmups, he could’ve bested the guys that mucked it up this year.

Instead, we’ll have to watch him throw down dunks like this and wonder what could’ve been.

Here, the Hawks run a post play for the future Hall-of-Famer. Once John Collins clears out of the paint, Carter goes to work on Toronto Raptors guard Patrick McCaw, backing into wiry wing once before catching him off balance with a slick spin move. Most Improved Player candidate Pascal Siakam slides down to help, but by then, the man once known as “Half-Man, Half-Amazing” was already prepared for takeoff.

Next season will likely be Carter’s last, so fans should relish these throwback moments.
