11. Mid-range Spurs ride 3-point barrage and LaMarcus Aldridge to double-overtime win over OKC

The San Antonio Spurs took the fewest 3-point attempts in the NBA this season, but on Jan. 11, they were feeling themselves from downtown early on. Starting the game a perfect 14-for-14 from beyond the arc, the Spurs got off to the hottest start without a single miss in 20 years.

Somehow, the Oklahoma City Thunder were able to stay in the game despite Marco Belinelli and Davis Bertans absolutely lighting it up from deep. Though the Spurs shot 16-for-19 from 3 for the highest percentage in NBA history on a minimum of 15 attempts (84.2 percent), a whopping 24-point, 24-assist, 13-rebound triple-double from Russell Westbrook and 30 points from Paul George helped OKC hang around in this double-overtime thriller.

However, even with Jerami Grant (25 points) and Derrick White (23 points) both recording career highs, the real star of the night was LaMarcus Aldridge, who notched a career high 56 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four blocks in the victory.

He was simply unstoppable down the stretch, taking advantage of the Thunder’s shorthanded Thunder by scoring eight consecutive points after Steven Adams left the game injured, plus another seven points in the second overtime period. He went 20-for-33 overall, and made all 16 of his free throws.

The win gave San Antonio its 14th victory over its last 18 contests, and also moved head coach Gregg Popovich into third place on the NBA’s all-time wins list. From top to bottom, this was simply one of the most epic games in the NBA this season.
