21. Brooklyn Nets prevail in triple-overtime game vs. Cleveland Cavaliers

This is going to sound like a joke, but it’s 100 percent true: The Brooklyn Nets’ triple-overtime win over the Cleveland Cavaliers just before the All-Star break was one of the most entertaining games of the year, filled with unforgettable moments and signature shots that warrant more praise than you’d expect from a lottery squad and a borderline .500 team.

While D’Angelo Russell and the Nets ultimately held on for the 148-139 victory, there were big-time performances on both sides. Russell led Brooklyn with 36 points, but unleashed 14 of them in the final overtime period.

However, he wouldn’t have gotten his chance to turn the tide late if not for DeMarre Carroll‘s clutch 3 to force a third overtime in the first place. With 3.6 seconds remaining, the wily veteran caught the inbounds pass, faked the handoff to Joe Harris and stepped back to drill the game-tying 3 at the buzzer.

Jordan Clarkson, meanwhile, led the Cavs with a career-high 42 points, eight rebounds and five assists off the bench, joining Allen Iverson (2002) and Nate Robinson (2010) as the only players in the last 35 years to post a 40-5-5 stat line off the bench.

Collin Sexton notched a 24-6-5 stat line, while Marquese Chriss put up 23 points and seven boards off the bench. Quese also had the best individual highlight of the game, absolutely baptizing Jarrett Allen with one of the NBA’s top Dunk of the Year candidates.

Sometimes the best games come from the unlikeliest of places, and Nets-Cavs certainly lived up to the hype with this triple-OT thriller.
