35. Total meltdown of the Washington Wizards with volatile practice and trade rumors

It wouldn’t be #ThisLeague if we didn’t catch wind of organizational turmoil, chemistry issues and full-on tirades between players and front office staff at some point!

This year, the Washington Wizards decided to follow in the Minnesota Timberwolves’ steps after a tumultuous 5-11 start that had no one — not even John Wall and Bradley Beal — off limits in trade discussions.

According to ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski, at one heated practice where head coach Scott Brooks tried to coax more energy out of his team, Wall responded with a verbal barrage and a “f**k you.”

The Washington Post‘s Candace Buckner revealed it began when Wall and Jeff Green got into it and Brooks intervened. Austin Rivers and Beal had a spat of their own as well, and Beal said, “I’ve been dealing with this s**t for seven years” before gesturing toward team president Ernie Grunfeld and saying, “It starts at the top.”

In their very next game, the Wizards overcame the swirling adversity, rallying from a 24-point deficit to beat the Los Angeles Clippers. But did that fix anything? From Markieff Morris‘ perspective, not in the slightest.

The Wizards wound up keeping Wall and Beal, but shipped out Rivers, Morris, Kelly Oubre Jr. and Otto Porter Jr. over the next few months. With Wall sidelined and the playoffs slipping away, the team finally, mercifully fired Grunfeld on April 2.
