40. Anthony Davis drops 48 and game-winner to upstage Luka Doncic’s new career-high 34 points

The New Orleans Pelicans were on a five-game losing streak in late December, desperately in need of a win. In a game that almost foreshadowed why he’d want out in just a few months, Anthony Davis put the team on his back with superhuman play to end the skid.

Finishing with a season-high 48 points, 17 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals against the Dallas Mavericks, AD filled up the stat sheet as only he knows how to out-duel Luka Doncic, who finished with a then career-high 34 points.

With 1:18 left in the game, Doncic drilled a clutch step-back 3 to give the Mavs a one-point lead. However, AD responded with a turnaround jumper with 43.9 seconds left and was fouled on the play. His free throw extended the lead to two, and the Pelicans were able to survive Dallas’ three shots at winning the game.
