7. The early season win streak

Okay, this one isn’t exactly a specific “moment” per se, but rather an elongated moment that served as one of the season’s only bright spots.

From Nov. 14-21, the Grizzlies were on top of the league. Their 12-5 record, including a 7-1 home mark, was putting them in the top of the standings. There was little belief they’d stay at that top spot, but who’s to say their early season success wouldn’t propel them to a sixth, seventh or eighth seed?

During those five games, the Grizzlies beat the Milwaukee Bucks and San Antonio Spurs, two teams in the playoffs this year. Combining this with early season wins over the Utah Jazz (twice), Denver Nuggets and Philadelphia 76ers, the season was looking much better than anyone could have predicted.

The next week, however, the team fell apart and the season with it.

Taking a look at the picture above, three of those players aren’t even on the team anymore. Two of them haven’t played in over a month. Only Mike Conley remains.

It was a nice run while it lasted, but eventually the team’s true colors started to show.
