Memphis Grizzlies: Top 10 moments of the 2018-19 NBA season
2. The Jaren Jackson Jr. game
Ask any Grizzlies’ fan about Jaren Jackson Jr.’s best game of the year and the majority wouldn’t hesitate as they’d say “the comeback win against the Brooklyn Nets.”
Not only did the rookie from Michigan State hit a career high in scoring as he poured in 36 points, but it was sort of a coming-out party as well. After the game, Conley praised Jackson saying, “He’s got the gene to make the big shots in the big time moments.”
The game for the Grizzlies was going quite poorly, as the team looked like it was headed for an early season defeat, being down seven points with 33 seconds remaining. Fortunately for the Grizz, they had Jaren Jackson Jr. on their team and the Nets were in “We have to finish games?” mode.
Jackson converted on a 4-point play to cut the lead to just three with 24 seconds left. After the Nets turned it over, Jackson hit a 30-foot 3-pointer to tie the game and send it into overtime. Mike Conley ended up taking control of the game and the Grizzlies pulled out a 131-125 win in double-OT, but without Jackson’s heroics they would have been finished.
While his case for Rookie of the Year (or second place) has dwindled since his injury, he still figures to be in the conversation for First Team All-Rookie honors with great play throughout the year, including this huge game. Fans can only hope that Jackson will return to full health next season and provide more big-time moments for the franchise.
