7. Last-second victory over the Knicks across the pond

On Jan. 17, the Wizards had been gifted the opportunity to travel across the pond and play in the famous O2 Arena stationed in London. Their opponent for this unique experience would be the New York Knicks, who to that point, had gone 10-33 on the season.

Despite their ineptitude, the Knicks would come out the gates swinging, leading for a majority of the game and building up a lead by as many as 19 points midway through the second quarter. For all its inconsistencies, Washington fought back to cut the lead to just one with under five seconds remaining.

It was in these final seconds where one of the weirdest sequences of the season would occur. Facing a double-team near the top of the key, Beal dished it off to Thomas Bryant diving to the bucket. Upon laying it up at the rim, it appeared as though the shot was blocked by Knicks rookie Allonzo Trier at the buzzer, saving the game for New York.

However, as the final horn sounded, a different noise could be heard coming from the whistle of a referee who deemed the block a goaltend. Upon further review, the call was confirmed. The Knicks were given a desperation heave with milliseconds left that failed to drop, giving the Wizards the win and providing the fans in London with a late-game scenario they won’t soon forget.
