Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 reasons Collin Sexton should be First Team All-Rookie
By Tony Pesta
3. Rapid development
Of all the rookie players in last year’s draft, Collin Sexton has shown the most improvement in his game (outside of Trae Young). A roller coaster season for Sexton has not only displayed his will to improve, but also his persistence to power through adversity.
Sexton’s rookie slump has been well documented. To start the season, Collin averaged just 10.5 points on 40.7 percent shooting in his first 10 games. Later in the year, Sexton had another poor stretch of 25 games where he put up similar numbers.
After all of his struggles, Sexton finished the season off in a strong way, putting up 21.4 points and 3.0 assists a game while shooting 43.5 percent from deep and 47.3 percent overall in the last 27 games of the season (with one remaining on Tuesday). This run from the Young Bull was enough to prove his dedication to the game.
Not many other players in the league are capable of taking lumps in their rookie seasons and bouncing back as Sexton did. It’s tough to keep a high level of confidence when dealing with adversity, but he did a great job at keeping his head up and focusing on improving.
