As a team with so much potential, the Washington Wizards fell flat, leading to a fairly underwhelming 2018-19 regular season.
In this era of their franchise’s history, the Washington Wizards have always appeared good enough to qualify for the postseason, yet never quite good enough to get over the hump and realistically contend for an NBA title.
They boasted one of the more talented starting fives in the league with an All-Star backcourt and an above-average frontcourt, but a lack of chemistry hampered them seemingly every season — none more so than in 2018-19, where the Wizards missed the playoffs for just the second time in six years.
It didn’t help that Washington got off to a 12-18 start over its first 30 games, but another big reason for its poor performance all year was the injuries suffered by some of the team’s most impactful players, hampering the overall talent level of the on-court product on a nightly basis in the nation’s capital.
This has always been a team in limbo, a trend likely to continue moving forward given the unfortunate circumstances that have befallen them. But in the present day, the only thing that matters is addressing what went wrong this season in the hope that it will never happen again in the future.
