If the Los Angeles Lakers are to part ways with Luke Walton at the end of the season, Jason Kidd is rumored to be a favorite for the head coaching position.

Amidst the March Madness taking place in the NCAA Tournament, it was reported that the University of California-Berkeley fired head basketball coach Wyking Jones on March 24. This would usually not be a talking point for the NBA news cycle, but Jason Kidd is a target for coaching his alma mater. However, we may have to wait to see how the NBA coaching carousel plays out first, according to ESPN’s Marc Spears.

One team that may have a head coaching vacancy is the Los Angeles Lakers if they choose to move on from Luke Walton, and Kidd is expected to be a serious candidate, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. With Walton’s dismissal rumored from multiple outlets, Kidd could find himself back in the NBA after a shaky ending to his tenure with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Kidd’s legacy as a player is cemented. He’s one of the best floor generals in NBA history, an NBA champion with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011, two-time Olympic gold medalist and was a first ballot Hall of Fame inductee in 2018. But his coaching philosophies in Milwaukee and with the Brooklyn Nets before have brought doubt over the promise of this potential hire.

To preface the rest of this article, it should be noted this is all pure speculation. The murmurs about Walton being fired at season’s end are just whispers, and Kidd would be one of a list of candidates. But both rumors have been talked about for a couple months, and when there’s smoke there’s usually fire, just like LeBron James heading to the Lakers swirled for over a year before actually happening.

Jason Kidd’s coaching record isn’t the best and there are some comical moments from his times in Brooklyn and Milwaukee, but here are three thoughts if the Lakers’ interest comes to life in the offseason.
