Cleveland Cavaliers: Imagining a Ja Morant and Collin Sexton backcourt
By Tony Pesta
Conclusion
The thought of pairing Ja Morant and Collin Sexton is an interesting one. Cavaliers general manager Koby Altman was already spotted at one of Morant’s games earlier this season. This means Cleveland is at the very least considering Morant as a possible option in the NBA Draft.
This is for a good reason. Morant is a sensational player with superstar potential. He has shown that he is ready to compete at the highest level by posting 17 points, 16 assists and 12 rebounds in round one of the NCAA Tournament.
There is concern that drafting Morant could stunt the development of Sexton. He has been showing glimpses of greatness recently and it would be a shame to watch his game be stifled by the presence of another ball-dominant guard.
Above all else, the Cavaliers would much rather select a player such as Zion Williamson or R.J. Barrett. These two stars have a much easier fit with the team and make more sense for Cleveland.
However, if the Cavaliers find themselves drafting after Williamson and Barrett have already been picked, Morant should be a safe selection. It would be risky, but he and Sexton could turn into a killer duo on the court.
